What Will My Veterinarian Check During a Wellness Physical Exam?
During a wellness exam, our veterinarians typically offer the following services for pets:
Physical Examination
You should bring your pet in for a thorough physical examination at least once a year. We’ll assess the condition of every part of your pet’s body, inside and out, including their eyes, ears, nose, and mouth, internal organs, joints and bones, paws and claws, and skin and coat. Your vet can also measure their blood pressure and respiration.
Diagnostic Lab Testing
We maintain a modern diagnostic laboratory for testing blood, saliva, urine, and tissue samples to find signs of disease or disorders that might not be apparent during a physical examination.
Dental Examination
Oral disease, such as periodontitis, is very common in animals. The resulting infections can cause tooth loss and gum deterioration, as well as serious damage to internal organs. The most effective way to prevent oral problems is to have a complete dental exam and have teeth cleaned.
Other important aspects of wellness care include:
- Vaccinations
- Spaying and neutering
- Screening for intestinal parasites
- Weight management
- Nutritional assessment and planning
Your vet will also help you create a program you can follow at home to keep your pet at the peak of health.
